Troop committee meetings

4th Wednesday of the month(during regular scout meetings). All parents are encouraged to attend.

ADVANCEMENT: requirements information now available in online videos

There are a lot of advancement changes this year, so wanted to make sure everyone saw them. One thing to note is that the BSA has brought back 4 MBs from the archives just for this year: Carpentry, Pathfinding, Signaling, and Tracking. There are special badges for these, but they do count just like other MBs.

Help Wanted: Adult Volunteers needed in many areas

IMPORTANT WTC INFO

  • Jul 4 Saturday gear drop off: personal gear that the Scouts want to send ahead, including footlockers and sleeping bags.  Jon Dixon is going to bring the trailer up to camp sometime on the 4th.  A time to drop stuff off at the trailer will be announced soon.
  • Arrive at WTC  July 5th, by 11am. Wear Class A uniform to camp.
  • We are in Medicine Bow this year, down by the waterfront. Map. Park in the main parking lot and then get the kids to carry the rest of their stuff down to the camp site.
  • BRING A SACK LUNCH FOR SUNDAY.  The first meal is dinner on Sunday evening.

Make sure that swim suits are readily accessible as one of the first activities after medical check-in is the swim test.

·         Recommendation for storing camp gear in is a weatherproof footlocker of some sort, large enough to fit the gear in the gear list. Some prefer locking footlockers, but this really has never been an issue

·         mess kits and mattress pads not needed

·         Poles should be 36-42 inches long to hold up mosquito netting.

·         Do not bring any of the following: firearms, ammunition, fireworks, sheath knives, valuables, electronic equipment, personal CB radios, pets, camo/military clothing, aerosol cans. If scouts bring a cell phone, they will remain with the scoutmaster.

·         Also for those new to camp, we are sleeping in camp canvas tents with cots.  Mosquito netting and poles are highly encouraged.  We can discuss this at one of the troop meetings coming up.
The camp also offers CPR training one evening during the week.  The cost is about $5 (I think).  There are also camp pictures for $8.  Pictures are taken Monday afternoon while the guys are still nominally clean.
The amount of money to send depends on how much the boys will be buying of things such as camp t-shirt, craft items for merit badges, etc., and whether they want a picture and/or CPR certification. Most parents send $30-$40 for the week. There is a trading post that has general supplies and snacks.  Scouts can bring what ever amount of money they want.  The adults can hold on to it if the parents desire.  Please encourage your scouts not to stock up on candy throughout the week.

·         Scouts can be picked up any time after 5pm on Friday.

·         On Friday evening, the camp holds a family BBQ.  Tickets are $5 per person for guests.  There is a closing campfire that everyone is invited to stay for.

If everyone can look over this list of merit badges and think about what they would like to work on at camp.  For the scouts going to Provo, please let me know by July 1st how many blue cards you will need.
